My Project One

So I tell Barbara I'm going to get a Project 1 Madone and asked what sort of design I should get. I knew this would be a good exercise for her incredibly brilliant, creative brain and sure enough.

Of the several designs, I think I like this one the best because it captures the essence of my new farm life, my Sicilian heritage, and the fact that I love to eat.

Kewl!! I'd be the only human in the world with a chicken bike!
I'm going to send this design to Bill today, the guy who does the work on the Project one bikes. Stand by for that reaction.

I do think this would make a lovely bike. Quite the conversation piece too!!

There ya go! She never even deigns to mention the classy hounds-tooth check or glen plaid with leather straps and brass buckles I suggested for the lady with a barn full of polo ponies or hunters or dressage horses. Chickens she chooses. Chickens, for heaven's sake. gwakk gwaukkk gwauuuuuulk!

I wonder if that should be our template for the house? We already have the green couch.

I like the chicken concept for the house! As long as we can work in some horses too! I have a lovely set of green harkerware placesettings with a cream colored scalloped edging--very nice stuff. I also have a set of Lenox "Jefferson" dishes that is quite federalist looking. Humm. Perhaps a colonial theme that's not as stiff as colonial? Italian colonial??

btw, Bill looked at me kind of funny and said that the design would be "kind of hard to do." I said "could you do it as a decal?" He said he could do it, so Im' imagining the bike with a white background with a band of chickens..bawk!

Lady Barbara said...

NO NO! not a white background - you'll never see the wire! You just tell your friend Bill that I will hand paint that darn frame if I have to to get the real effect - of vivid-colored chickens inside their SILVER chicken wire pen, for heaven's sake - at least until them mean ole western cayotes get' em, for chicken's sake. Ha Ha! Chicken's sake indeed!
At least nobody asked me what "deign" meant. That's a good sign - for folks of our ilk.

I was too embarrassed to ask what "deign" is. Maybe we should have a Lady B "word of the day".

Well, deign is a verb meaning to condescend or lower oneself. In other words, she didn't even condescend to mention my other suggestion..... one that is, incidentally, more appropriate for people of our ilk!
Dontcha just LOVE it?
It all comes right back around.
I cant wait to meet you, Lisa
We'll just toss around all kinds of obscure words and nibble crust-less sandwiches (I love watercress and cream cheese on the thinnest white bread) and sip proper English tea from fine bone china cups and act all lah dee dah. Wadja think? Huh?

Incidentally -
Does Sara the chairwoman know the new blog address? I'd hate to lose an ally.

Thanks for filling me in on the new address. I'm here at home today sitting on my sofa with Ben and the new laptop. Wireless ladeez, totally wireless. I think the design is fantastic. You'll be the world's pre-eminent pollocyclist!

Lady Barbara said...

She's HERE! With us! And wireless no less. Ya know, Sara, I'm losing the classy approach with these neofarm gals. Pollocyclist, indeed - when I tried so hard to evoke a polocyclist concept. Oh what a difference a single letter can make.
Tea and scones anyone?

'Tis a slippery slope these wild women do descend! Bex! Lisa! Keep it under conrol, would you? I need a klassy joint from which to sell my horses at a shee shee la-la super premium! Barbara, I have all faith in your powers of tasteful design and Rebecca control.

What a gorgeous day it is here. I shall prepare a light compote to take with our tea and scones. Cheers!

Now you've done it! Whetted my appetite for compote and tea. Or forget the tea and bring on the sherry!
How does this recipe sound?
1 (16 oz.) can peach halves
1 (16 oz.) can pear halves
1 (15 1/4 oz.) can pineapple chunks
1 (17 oz.) can apricot halves
1 (16 1/2 oz.) can pitted dark sweet cherries
2 bananas, sliced
1 tsp. lemon juice
12 soft coconut macaroons, crumbled
1 (2 1/4 oz.) pkg. sliced almonds
1/4 c. butter
1/3 c. amaretto

Drain fruits, reserving syrup for other uses. (What other uses?) Combine canned fruits in a large bowl and set aside. Combine bananas and lemon juice and toss gently; add to fruit mixture. Layer half each of fruit mixture and macaroon crumbs in a 2 1/3 quart baking dish. Dot with 3 tablespoons butter. Repeat. Pour amaretto evenly over mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with almonds and serve. Yields 12 servings

We can even invite the new neighbors! waaaaaay too much to make just for myself - so we need
an excuse for a group, such as celebrating a new house.

What recipe did you have in mind, Sara? Or do you keep it a carefully guarded family secret?
